Congratulations to PhD student Catherine Bowlin for winning the English Department’s 2022 Outstanding Graduate Teaching Award!
The faculty members of the College Writing Program Committee (Jennifer Whitaker, Gia Coturri-Sorenson, Heather Adams, and Risa Applegarth) agreed that Catherine’s portfolio demonstrated her ample expertise and skill as a teacher. The committee found Catherine’s emphasis on place-based learning–seen in her thematic writing courses focused on ecocomposition, in geomapping and journaling assignments, and in the experiential and interactive activities she prioritizes–and her openness to radical transformation as a teacher compelling and inspiring.
