The MFA Writing Program at UNC Greensboro, The Greensboro Review, and The Weatherspoon Art Museum will host a reading by Julia Ridley Smith and Ross White on Thursday, January 27, at 6:00 PM in the Weatherspoon Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public and will be followed by a book signing. Face coverings are required for all attendees (more at https://weatherspoonart.org/visit/).

Julia Ridley Smith’s first book, The Sum of Trifles, is a memoir published by the University of Georgia Press (2021) as a title in their Crux literary nonfiction series. Julia’s short stories and essays have appeared in the Alaska Quarterly Review, American Literary Review, the Carolina Quarterly, Chelsea, Ecotone, Electric Literature, The Greensboro Reviewthe New England Review, Southern Cultures, The Southern Review, storySouth, among other places. Her book and art reviews have been published in Art Papers, Our State, the Raleigh News and Observer, and elsewhere. A firm believer that art is for everyone and helps people build stronger communities, she helped launch the Greensboro Bound Literary Festival and has served as a volunteer docent at the Weatherspoon Art MuseumJulia currently teaches at her alma mater, UNC Chapel Hill, where she’s the 2021-22 Kenan Visiting Writer.

Ross White is the author of Charm Offensive, winner of the 2019 Sexton Prize, and three chapbooks, Valley of WantHow We Came Upon the Colony, and The Polite Society. He is the director of Bull City Press, an independent publisher of poetry, fiction, and nonfiction, where he hosts The Chapbook, a podcast devoted to chapbooks. He teaches creative writing, podcasting, publishing, and grammar at UNC Chapel Hill. His poems have appeared or are forthcoming in American Poetry Review, The Greensboro Review, New England Review, Ploughshares, The Southern Review, and storySouth, among others. With Matthew Olzmann, he edited Another & Another: An Anthology from the Grind Daily Writing Series.
