The Last lecture is an opportunity for retiring professors to reflect on a career in higher education and what they have learned over their years in the classroom.
These events are made more meaningful by including former students as well as family, friends, and colleagues – a visual representation of the lives impacted within the professors’s sphere of influence.
The lecture and follow-up Q&A will last approximately 45 minutes,
with a reception to follow in the Humanities Lounge (MHRA 3501).

Douglass Day is a nationwide event presented by the Colored Conventions Project where students, faculty, and community members from across the country will collaborate to transcribe previously unpublished writings from Black historical figures with the goal of creating archives that will help make these important documents more accessible to researchers, teachers, students, and communities.
This year, Douglass Day participants will be transcribing the papers of the feminist and antiracist activist Mary Church Terrell, whose incredibly career spans nearly a century. Please encourage your students to come by and please come by yourselves–you don’t have to stay the whole time and you’re welcome to come and go as you can!
You can register for the event at http://go.uncg.edu/douglassday.

The mission of the Southeastern Medieval Association (SEMA) is to promote the study and enjoyment of the Middle Ages by students at every level of expertise. Professional and independent scholars from various branches of medieval studies–history, arts, science, philosophy, archaeology, paleography, theology, language, and literatures–make the Association’s annual meeting a forum for scholarly and pedagogical growth within those disciplines as well as a platform for interdisciplinary exchange and collaboration. Members publish their research in the Association’s refereed journal, Medieval Perspectives. The SEMA Executive Council is comprised of representatives from various fields of medieval studies and from the ranks of graduate students members.
