TRAVIS MULHAUSER & PETRA SALAZAR ALUMNI HOMECOMING FICTION & POETRY READING
October 1 @ 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm
The Creative Writing Program at UNC Greensboro and the UNCG Department of English will host a fiction and poetry reading by UNCG alums Travis Mulhauser and Petra Salazar on Thursday, October 1st at 6PM in the UNCG Alumni House. A part of the Department of English’s homecoming celebration, the event will be preceded by a reception. It is free and open to the public.
TRAVIS MULHAUSER is the author of the novels, Fair Chase (Grand Central/Hachette), The Trouble Up North (Grand Central/Hatchette), and Sweetgirl (Ecco/Harper Collins). The Trouble Up North was one of NPR’s Books We Love in 2025, received a starred review from Publisher’s Weekly, was an Amazon Editor’s Choice Pick, and an Apple Audio Must Listen selection. Sweetgirl was long-listed for The Center for Fiction’s First Novel Prize, was a Michigan Notable Book Award winner, an Indie Next Pick, and was named one of Ploughshares Best Books of the New Year. He currently lives currently in Durham, North Carolina with his wife, two children, and dog.
PETRA SALAZAR is a coyote educator from Río Arriba, currently residing in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Salazar’s writing maps coyote identity, ancestral memory, and sacred geographies of the U.S. Southwest. She writes to metabolize loss, bridge past and future, and cultivate new possibilities for identity and belonging in a modern world shaped by rigid binaries and policed borders. Her debut book, Harsh Terrain, is forthcoming from FlowerSong Press. A finalist and honorable mention in the 2022 Button Chapbook Contest, her work has appeared in Colorado Review, Sonora Review, Latin American Literature Today, and elsewhere.
