Each year, the MFA faculty invites authors and editors to Greensboro for our Distinguished Visiting Writers Series, which features virtual and on-campus readings, workshops, and master classes. Guests have included poet laureates and winners of the Pulitzer Prize, the National Book Award, and the PEN/Hemingway Award, among others.

Kathy Flann is the author of Smoky Ordinary, winner of the Serena McDonald Kennedy Award and Get A Grip, winner of the George Garrett Fiction Prize. Her short stories have appeared in more than 25 journals and anthologies, such as Shenandoah, The North American Review, Blackbird, The Michigan Quarterly Review, and New Stories from the South. She teaches writing at the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth.

Tyree Daye is a poet from Youngsville, North Carolina, and a Teaching Assistant Professor at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is the author of two poetry collections: River Hymns (2017 APR/Honickman First Book Prize winner) and Cardinal (Copper Canyon Press 2020). Daye is a Cave Canem fellow and a 2019 Kate Tufts Finalist. Daye won the 2019 Palm Beach Poetry Festival Langston Hughes Fellowship, 2019 Diana and Simon Raab Writer-In-Residence at UC Santa Barbara, and most recently, was awarded a 2019 Whiting Writers Award.
