AN OPPORTUNITY TO
The George Herbert in Bemerton Group is delighted to offer delegates attending the Sixth Triennial Conference of the George Herbert Society an opportunity to visit the location of Herbert’s life and ministry during his final years.
Programme
Following a buffet lunch on arrival, visiting delegates will be invited to see St. Andrew’s Church, the Old Rectory and the recently opened George Herbert Heritage Centre. There also will be a guided tour of Wilton House, the nearby seat of Herbert’s kinfolk the Earls of Pembroke. The visit programme will conclude at about 5:30 pm.
Evening Event
In the evening (7.30 pm), the Group is hosting a public symposium entitled ‘Full of All Knowledge’. We hope that visiting delegates will stay on to attend. The discussion will focus on Herbert’s prose work The Country Parson and the implications of his decision to enter the priesthood and accept the living at Bemerton. The panel will be:
Moderator – The Rev’d Canon Professor James Woodward (Principal, Sarum College)
There is no charge for admission. After the event, light refreshments will be served in a local riverside garden.
