SUMMARY:Radu Vancu Poetry Reading
DESCRIPTION:The Class of 1949 and Creative Writing at UNC Greensboro will host a poetry reading by Romanian poet\, essayist\, and translator Radu Vancu on Thursday\, September 3rd at 6:00 PM at Scuppernong Books\, 304 S. Elm Street. The event is free and open to the public and will be followed by a book signing. RADU VANCU is university professor of arts and letters at the Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu. He is the author of eleven volumes of poetry and numerous books of prose. He has also contributed important translations into Romanian\, including volumes by W. B. Yeats\, Ezra Pound\, and John Berryman. Vancu is editor of Poesis International and Transilvania\, founder and organizer of the annual international poetry festival “Poets in Transylvania\,” and former president of PEN Romania.

The Animators\, was named a best book of 2017 by Entertainment Weekly\, NPR\, Kirkus\, and BookPage. Other work has been published in The Los Angeles Times\, Buzzfeed\, Electric Literature\, and elsewhere.  She writes and teaches in Queens\, New York.

DESCRIPTION:The Creative Writing Program at UNC Greensboro and the Class of 1949 will host a fiction and poetry reading by UNCG alums Travis Mulhauser and Petra Salazar on Thursday\, October 1st at 6PM in the UNCG Alumni House. A part of the Department of English’s homecoming celebration\, the event will be preceded by a reception. It is free and open to the public. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nTRAVIS MULHAUSER is the author of the novels\, Fair Chase (Grand Central/Hachette)\, The Trouble Up North (Grand Central/Hatchette)\, and Sweetgirl (Ecco/Harper Collins). The Trouble Up North was one of NPR’s Books We Love in 2025\, received a starred review from Publisher’s Weekly\, was an Amazon Editor’s Choice Pick\, and an Apple Audio Must Listen selection. Sweetgirl was long-listed for The Center for Fiction’s First Novel Prize\, was a Michigan Notable Book Award winner\, an Indie Next Pick\, and was named one of Ploughshares Best Books of the New Year. He currently lives currently in Durham\, North Carolina with his wife\, two children\, and dog. \n\n\n\nPETRA SALAZAR is a coyote educator from Río Arriba\, currently residing in Winston-Salem\, North Carolina. Salazar’s writing maps coyote identity\, ancestral memory\, and sacred geographies of the U.S. Southwest. She writes to metabolize loss\, bridge past and future\, and cultivate new possibilities for identity and belonging in a modern world shaped by rigid binaries and policed borders. Her debut book\, Harsh Terrain\, is forthcoming from FlowerSong Press. A finalist and honorable mention in the 2022 Button Chapbook Contest\, her work has appeared in Colorado Review\, Sonora Review\, Latin American Literature Today\, and elsewhere.

His stories have appeared in Mid-American Review\, Zone 3\, Story Magazine\, Massachusetts Review\, Southern Indiana Review\, Reckon Review and elsewhere. He has also written for outlets like The New York Times and PopMatters. He lives and works in North Carolina.
